Mayor Eric Garcetti recently announced at the State of the City regarding a focus on youth employment with a program called Find Your Future ( https://www.findyourfuture.la/). 

This program is geared toward young minorities. Westfield Topanga Mall is partnering with the City of LA/Find Your Future to put on a youth job fair. The job fair is geared to the age range of 16-24.

Youth and the Law Forum

The Long Beach Inglewood South Bay Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. is hosting their fifth annual Youth and the Law Forum at the Ahmanson Recruit Training Center on February 23, 2019. The event will be held from 8 am - 1:30 pm, and is open to youth grades 6 - 12.

Forum topics include:

  • Law Enforcement Interaction

  • Criminal Justice System

  • Life in jail or prison

  • Acting responsibly 

  • Force Option Simulator

Kappa League Orientation

On Sunday, August 19, 2018 at 3:00 p.m., the Long Beach Inglewood South Bay Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. will hold its annual Kappa League orientation at Stephen White Middle School in Carson, CA.

Founded in 1969, the Kappa League is a program that focuses on the educational, occupational and social guidance of young men in grades 6th-12th. The program was designed to help young men grow, receive, and develop their leadership talents in every phase of human endeavor.

During this year’s event, perspective Kappa Leaguers will be introduced to the incoming leadership team, hear an overview of the program’s expectations, and discuss expenses and fundraisers for the 2018-2019 school year.

KRIMSON AND KREME PARTNERS WITH SIGMA GAMMA RHO TO PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIPS

In 2018, the Krimson and Kreme Foundation donated $1000 to the women of the Theta Upsilon Sigma chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. to support the group’s annual scholarship competition. After the submission deadline ended, three winners were chosen and received scholarships in the amounts of $1000, $500, and $250 to be used toward their college education. This year’s top recipient, Christina H., will be beginning her studies at UCLA in the fall.

Each year, the Krimson and Kreme Foundation partners with the brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. to celebrate the achievements of the young men and women in its mentorship programs as they graduate from high school and matriculate to college. Inspired by the day the nation’s top high school athletes commit to a university, our signing day commemorates the culmination of our scholars’ high school achievements. Signing day was held on June 9, 2018 at the Greater Bethel Cathedral Church in Los Angeles. This year’s graduates celebrated their upcoming attendance at several colleges and universities, including UCLA, UNLV, CSULB, CSUDH, El Camino College, and the University of the Pacific.

ALL WAYS UP SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

In 2018, three of the Krimson and Kreme Foundation’s mentees were chosen for the highly competitive All Ways Up Foundation scholarship. Out of more than 350 applicants, Chloe Clark, Ryan Allison and Rafael Quevedo were chosen for three of the 60 award slots. In addition to offering a $10,000 scholarship for low-income students, the All Ways Up Foundation also offers ongoing support services, like tutoring and college academic counseling to its scholars.

The Krimson and Kreme Holiday Ball took place on December 9, 2017 at the Renaissance Los Angeles Airport Hotel. This year’s event raised more than $25,000 for the foundation, helping to ensure 20 students would receive scholarships in 2018. While the Krimson and Kreme Foundation uses the annual gala to support its larger educational and mentoring programs, the event is also a fun time for all who attend. This year, legendary R&B group Lakeside performed hits like “It’s All the Way Live” and “Fantastic Voyage” for the packed crowd.
